DuVernay recalled being given an assignment to watch the residence and scrutinizing the trash from one of the jury. The work she was assigned to did not leave her satisfied in journalism, so she decided to shift her focus towards the field of publicity. DuVernay was employed by a tiny studio as a junior publicist right after college. Her own Public Relations company, The DuVernay Agency was established in 1999. The company launched a number of promotions and lifestyle channels that include Urban Beauty Collective and Urban Eye.
